Who the course is for…
Anyone (age 14+) who wants to learn more about common mental health conditions and how to begin to support and advise someone who is experiencing them.
Skills you will take away…
• Know what mental health is, why people develop mental health conditions and the role of a First Aider for mental health
• How to provide advice and practical support for a person presenting a mental health condition
• How to recognise and manage stress
• How to recognise a range of other mental health conditions

• Defining mental health
• Understanding stigma
• Factors that can affect a person’s mental health
• The role of a First Aider for mental health
• Giving basic advice
• When to contact the emergency services
• Identifying signs of stress and how to manage it
• Identifying signs and symptoms of depression, anxiety, psychosis, eating disorders, suicide and self-harm
To do this course you will need…
No previous experience, but a willingness to learn about mental health and mental health conditions and how they could be supported.
